ELT should be replaced by AI - Senior Software Engineer CivicPlus Employee Review

Pros

Remote work is great, that's about it. Most employees are able to commiserate and agree that the company likely will not exist in 2 years based on the ELT they have hired, so at least there is comradery

Cons

the ELT changes have made working here dreadful. There is zero communication from engineering leadership, and with the latest 'restructuring', there is even less. This company purely pushes AI now, and tho I do not believe most jobs should be replaced by AI, our ELT would at the very least make decisions and be able to communicate them if they were AI. The pay is low. Base is low but alright, but there are no bonuses, no RSUs. Their yearly pay increases are based on a 'weighted' scale based on your performance, where earning a 5/5 is supposed to be achievable, but if you talk to managers it's almost unheard of. The weight keeps you very close to 3% increase until you are past the middle point of your band, then it is used as a reason to reduce your %. The math is roughly that it would take 12 years to get from the bottom of your bracket to the top. If you're an engineer once you hit Senior 2 here you need to find a different job if you want to make more $, the bands for every higher level are the same as senior 2, so don't expect to progress.

Pros

Great work-life balance, move like a startup even for a 1k person organization. Pivots quick from top down. Very clear communications from top leadership on goals.

Cons

Silos, so many companies acquired by them that it's a challenge understanding what's going on cross-departmentally. Even figuring out who to reach through comms is, in and of itself a huge challenge.

Pros

Only pro was work from home

Cons

The marketing department was extremely cliquish, and it often felt like long-tenured employees had mastered the art of throwing others under the bus to protect themselves. Collaboration and accountability took a back seat to office politics. My biggest warning to prospective employees is regarding HR. In my experience, bringing concerns to HR only resulted in those concerns being turned back on the employee. I never felt supported or advocated for, and the process felt designed to protect management rather than address legitimate issues. If you are expecting HR to be a neutral resource for employees, that was not my experience. Staffing gaps routinely resulted in additional responsibilities being pushed onto existing employees without adequate support, creating an environment where expectations continued to increase while resources did not.
