Pros

The mission is important, as is the work that is being done. The staff are incredible. Experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated to the mission. A lot of good work happens here, despite the lack of quality leadership and strategic direction.

Cons

Staff have not had performance reviews or either merit or COLA raises since at least 2020, even when surpassing fundraising and budget goals by a large margin. There are no clear goals or strategy for the organization; the leadership team says they've been working on a strategic plan for the last 18 months but there is still nothing to show for it. The same is true of their DEI work and other HR projects. The leadership team often says they are committed to transparency, but they share very little and keep saying "more to come." But nothing of substance every comes. Employees make well-thought out and planful suggestions on how to improve things, but leadership seems incapable of making any decisions to handle the rapid organizational growth. There is an over-reliance and over-spending on consultants, despite the major hiring explosion that has happened.

Pros

Excellent organization if you enjoy solving complex problems. Staff are extremely passionate, dedicated to their work, and focused on impact. The work environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and intentional about breaking silos. Leadership (despite being stretched thin) is truly top notch, and recently added leadership capabilities are already proving to be effective.

Cons

Remote work environment is a con for some; DC and Boston have offices that staff can use.
