Exciting work with talented engineers, but fast growth isn't plain sailing - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) ClearRoute Employee Review

Pros

ClearRoute exists because we believe platform engineering deserves to be done properly, not as an afterthought, but as the thing that lets great software get built and run well. That conviction runs through everything here. We're betting early and seriously on AI-native delivery, and the work people get to do on the back of that is genuinely ahead of the market. The calibre of the engineers is the thing I'm proudest of. People here care about the craft, push each other, and get real ownership of meaningful client problems rather than being a small cog in a big machine. If you want to be close to the impact of your work and have a hand in shaping where a company goes, this is a rare place to do it. We also take the partnership and the technology direction seriously, which means the problems you work on tend to be the interesting ones, the ones that are still being figured out.

Cons

We're scaling fast, and that brings the trade-offs you'd expect: priorities can shift, and some of the process and structure is still being built as we grow. That suits people who like ambiguity and want to help shape how things work, it's less comfortable if you prefer everything settled and defined on day one. We're conscious of it and actively investing in getting the foundations right.

Pros

I'd heard plenty of positives about ClearRoute before joining, but honestly, it surpassed all my expectations. The transparency about where the company is heading, what it values, and how it wants to grow was immediately clear and has stayed consistent throughout my first year. That's rare. What struck me first was the welcome. Colleagues from every region made the effort to reach out, and it felt genuine, not forced. A year in, I can confirm that warmth isn't a one-off; it reflects who this company actually is. The values aren't wall art, they're how people operate day to day. ClearRoute is at an exciting point in its growth, which means the work is demanding and the pace is fast. But that's the appeal. You're surrounded by highly skilled colleagues, given the space to contribute meaningfully, and encouraged to keep learning. I've had to stretch into new areas and share knowledge across the team, and both have been genuinely rewarding. No company is perfect, but what matters is whether you can raise challenges openly. At ClearRoute, I genuinely feel I can, and that counts for a lot. The next year will be equally challenging, but I know we'll get there by sticking to our values and supporting each other.

Cons

Growing quickly means adopting new ways of working to scale successfully, and that takes time. ClearRoute is actively driving this, but it won't always be seamless. If you can bring some patience and accept that not everything will be perfect straight away, you'll love it

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, it really means a lot to us. At ClearRoute, we genuinely care about building a place where people can do their best work, and feedback like this tells us we're on the right track. We're proud of the culture and team we've built, and we work hard every day to maintain it. If you ever have suggestions for how we can keep improving, we're always listening, our door is open. Thanks again for being part of the team.

Pros

hybrid working and colleagues are great people. Regular socials are nice

Cons

The CEO has recently been asking people in forums to post good reviews here and has recently posted one himself which is, frankly, quite sad. Not only is this quite a glaring red flag, but ignoring valid concerns raised by employees seems to be ClearRoute's strategy for dealing with feedback. I would take the overly positive 5 star reviews here with some skepticism. Most projects are run chaotically with very little regard for delivery teams, as ClearRoute might not always back you up on a client engagement. Feedback and concerns are usually ignored until things get messy. The team morale across most projects seems to be at rock bottom and a lot of colleagues suffer from burnout. The company has also pivoted hard into AI, and that has come with an identity crisis. The extent to which the leadership has feverishly boarded the AI bandwagon is a bit disconcerting, with some senior figures even discouraging juniors from learning programming and telling them to stick to vibe coding. A lot of colleagues have been lowballed and, despite being overperformers, are not compensated at their worth. Pay rises are pretty much handed down with no room for negotiation. So, my advice would be to negotiate hard if you do wish to join. Leadership has also hinted they might discontinue profit share.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're glad the engineering team made a positive impression, that reflects the calibre of people we've worked hard to hire. We take the other points seriously and want to address them directly. We don't recognise the culture described here. ClearRoute is a small, close-knit team and we're genuinely invested in how people experience working here and that includes flexibility, balance and creating an environment where different people can thrive. Regarding Glassdoor reviews, the CEO did ask people to provide fair and holistic reviews, not good reviews, but honest and authentic as we are growing so fast and are looking for the best talent. Addressing the delivery and project management points, we're a consulting business and client engagements are rarely frictionless. We'd be the first to admit we don't always get it right. But backing our people on client engagements is something we care about deeply, and if that wasn't someone's experience, that's a conversation we genuinely want to have. On AI, yes, we've leaned hard into it, and we make no apology for that. The technology is transforming how software is built and delivered, and we'd be doing our clients and our people a disservice by pretending otherwise. But the suggestion that we discourage learning fundamentals in favour of vibe coding is simply not accurate. We believe strong engineers make better AI-augmented engineers, not the other way round. We'd welcome the opportunity to hear more. If you're open to it, please reach out to us directly, we'd rather have that conversation than leave concerns unaddressed.
