Pros

- Good benefits for a nonprofit. I've been at other nonprofits with more PTO and better 401k, but it's not bad. - Great WFH benefits. Anything you want, you get. - Strong development team. - Solid marcomm. - DEI gets an A for effort.

Cons

- It's common to still be "feeling it out" a few weeks after getting hired, but more common than not, people are hired and then doing random things for at least six months, if not more. There isn't a solid effort for onboarding. Feels like every time a department wants to hire, HR says yes. - HR is weak. Performance improvement plans are thrown around whenever managers feel like doing it. I know several people have gotten them without a concrete explanation of the reason. No HR in other organizations would've let these plans go out their doors. - My boss has been a hyper-micromanager for many years. Deadlines are of their creation and everyone else just needs to jump in whenever they feel like it. Everyone knows that they're the main reason people leave. I know their department gets paid more than others and that's because of this reason. Other departments are exasperated working with the team and have blatantly said that working with the team takes so long and so pointless. I sense our stakeholders don't appreciate them either. I heard rumors that staff have tried to get them fired and that their peer reviews were abysmal. Alas, they're still there and I'm not. However, my boss wasn't the only one. I know other directors who forced 1-2 people in their team to come to the office every day for the sake of coming to the office, are also micromanagers and consistently keep staff in low positions. A lot of staff need working visas so they know who they can bully and still won't quit.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Your candid insights are invaluable in helping us improve our organization. I’m glad to hear that you find our benefits competitive, our work-from-home policies flexible, and appreciate our efforts to realize our commitments to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. However, I am concerned about the issues you've raised regarding HR and management practices. Your experience does not reflect the supportive work environment we aim to offer ClimateWorkers, and for that, I am sorry. As a mission-focused organization committed to addressing the most challenging problem facing humanity, we are committed to fostering a positive workplace for all of our staff. When we fall short, our intent is to learn from it. We will continue to invest in strategies and practices that enable all of our staff to be successful, and I appreciate the suggestions you made for how we can be better. Thank you again for your feedback and contributions to ClimateWorks, and we wish you the best. Shawn Reifsteck, Managing Director

Pros

* Amazing benefits * Org is making a difference in the world * Tons of people have been here for years, not a lot of turnover * Travel 2x a year to San Francisco or nearby area for all staff retreats and in town week. It's a fun group of people to be with! * In my position there is a good work life balance. I'm not working extra hours and can take PTO easily. People feel comfortable taking time to go to doctors appointments during the day. * room for growth - I got a promotion and have had the opportunity to take a few classes on new skills *diverse employees, culture is welcoming

Cons

* Change happens slowly *Hard to know who the decision maker is on something, people aren't empowered to make decisions. It's hard to reach consensus.

Pros

Overall, great organization to work.

Cons

They grew a lot in a short period of time and struggled with how to adapt, communicate, and manage the growth. Management was chaotic and unsupportive.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience working at ClimateWorks Foundation. We’re glad to hear you find the organization to be a great place to work overall–that means a lot. We also appreciate your feedback about the challenges that have accompanied our growth. You’re right that we’ve grown significantly in recent years as we’ve expanded the reach of our efforts. While this growth reflects the urgency of the climate crisis and increased philanthropic engagement, we recognize that it has at times affected the employee experience. Your comments underscore the importance of the work we’ve already begun to strengthen our systems, invest in staff development, and improve internal communications. We remain committed to building a supportive workplace that reflects our values and mission. Thank you again for your feedback and for your contributions to our team.
