Pros
If you enjoy a careless and "chill" working environment, while endangering your career and knowledge progression then Cloud Imperium Games is the place for you. Working at Cloud gives you lots of opportunities to do spend time on yourself, whether it is scrolling reddit or having a nap in the breakrooms.
Cons
Cloud is sadly a company that has outgrown its own skills and capabilities leading to the current state of the company The company is filled with people that have been with Cloud since the beginning, starting out as interns or Juniors and having worked their way up to Principals, Leads and even Directors. You can imagine the issues this brings with itself. People will lead without knowledge or experience as their only point of reference is what they have "learned" at Cloud itself. This results in tech and workflows, which are completely outdated or have been proven in the industry to be fruitless endeavors. Cloud, and its inexperienced leadership, however only learns from its own mistakes and thus makes every rookie mistake in the books. This of course results in wasted production time, no option to learn from your peers and actual experienced talent fleeing the company or staying far away from the place all together. Production at Cloud is also something special, while not in a positive way. Due to the above, and leadership without a clear end goal, work gets redone over and over again for the smallest changes. You can find yourself finishing something, only for it to get thrown in the trashcan upon completion due to a new movie/game or series being released which influences the ideas and goals of the company. Workflows and tech constantly change as well, due to again inexperienced leadership, leading to even more delays. At often times the place can be extremely toxic, with harassment and bullying spreading like wildfire from the top down. There is a culture of laying blame with the next person that comes all the way from the top. There have been cases of outright racism and sexual harassment carried out by leadership positions without any consequences except for a slap on the wrist. Financially you are being held captive with "industry leading" wages and benefits, which in reality are at the bare minimum. Wage is actually good for Junior levels but stagnates with seniority. Bonusses are nothing worth mentioning, benefits are at the bare minimum and so are vacation days. During 2023, raises, benefits and team budgets have been frozen as well as most promotions. Leading to disgruntled employees, something clearly visible during interactions with peers and daily work. On top of this, the company has done "layoffs" under the disguise of restructuring and moving production from LA to Manchester. In reality they closed the office, giving employees offers that were unacceptable. All this has led to employees wondering about the solvency of the company I would like to finish off by mentioning that Cloud is not the place for Junior talent. You will get dragged into their ideologies and issues mentioned above, learning wrong workflows and endangering your future career options. Climbing the ladder at Cloud is fruitless as you will not be considered for the same role when applying outside of the company. A senior at Cloud is a mid at best in other AAA-companies.
