Pros

Can’t say there are many. Free membership, young staff, flexible work hours.

Cons

My advice: it’s not worth the free membership - Premier Athletic Club in Croton treats you 10 times better than Club Fit. Club Fit JV is an incredibly cliquey, uncomfortable work environment. If you are a young female- run the other way. The managers will watch receptionists like a hawk For example, for many years Receptionists were required to stand for hours on end. When finally given chairs, we were constantly fearful that the chairs would be taken away from us if we looked “inattentive”. At one point upper management considered making us all put our phones in a plastic bin during our shifts so we couldn’t even look at them. Look, when customers come in, no one has a problem putting their phone down, but you there are times where a whole hour could go buy without a member coming in. Im not sitting around watching paint dry for an hour, I’m going on my phone. Female receptionists are constantly under the microscope by managers. All staff are given the same rules to follow, but the rules are really only enforced on the female staff. The dress code for ALL receptionists is to wear black pants and the club fit t-shirt. I worked there for 1.5 YEARS and ALWAYS wore black pants. One day, someone in my house accidentally through in my last pair of black pants in with their laundry, so I didn’t have pants for my opening shift. I wore knee length black dress shorts instead. Well, another female manager reported me to higher ups. I couldn’t believe the audacity. Male staff members wore basketball shorts EVERY DAY, without being written up. In fact, multiple managers saw male receptionists in shorts regularly and ignored it. I later found out that Club Fit Briarcliff allows their female staff to wear shorts (go figure that the CEO of briarcliff if a woman, and the female staff are treated better). At JV, male staff will constantly goof off, arrive out of uniform and yet they rarely faced consequences. And they RARELY got fired. Female staff were “put in their place” all the time. It became a massive joke among the staff that certain female managers favored specific male staff. It’s pretty clear they make examples out of women because they can’t control the guys as easily. My advice: don’t bother working here. You deserve better. These are just the problems you’ll deal with other staff members- the club members will likely be worse! When I was a hospitality supervisor, we had one girl quit because of the creepy comments made to her by male members. I had to write harassment reports constantly. Management will take certain allegations seriously, but is it really worth your dignity? No. With all of this nonsense, it’s no surprise Club Fit has a terrible turnover rate. As for job prospects, they’ll promote you to hospitality supervisor and pay you an extra $1 per hour to literally be responsible for saving lives. No joke- you will have to be expected to perform CPR, respond to seizures, strokes, and falls regularly - and you will get paid $16 per hour to do so. Did you really sign up to be a healthcare worker? No. I feel like I now know what it’s like to be an EMT.
