Pros

- Good medical benefits and pension - Good severance (received after several years of service upon quitting) - Decent pay

Cons

- You will be expected to work far beyond your job description, to the point of doing the jobs of multiple people, for no extra compensation. Management will tell you they "never want to hear someone say that's not their job" but will send you, a receptionist, untrained and without proper equipment, to patrol the exterior of the building as a security guard - Many of my fellow ambassadors were violently assaulted (punched, spat on) by homeless people and it took several years of complaints for management to consider bringing back a security guard which they would only do for nighttime hours, despite threat of violence from homeless people at all times - Management does not pick favourites necessarily but they do pick scapegoats. They will single one or two ambassadors out and catch them for all mistakes, meanwhile everyone else is allowed to make these mistakes without issue. Scapegoats will often change - you will be safe for several weeks as a good employee, and then suddenly you will be scapegoated for several weeks. After they have mentally beat you down long enough, they randomly give you "Ambassador of the Month" to trick you into accepting the abuse. - It is a very toxic environment here. They do a good job of disguising the toxicity as a wholesome, fun-loving environment, however. - Management will attempt to coerce you into signing a "shift trade" which will waive your right to overtime pay. Management will force sick ambassadors to come to work to sign their half of the shift trade so that they don't have to pay overtime to whoever is covering the shift. - Management will literally do everything possible to avoid paying OT but still maxing out your hours. They will put you on close open shifts, switching you back and forth between overnight audit shifts and day shifts. - Management is extremely gossipy and will often divulge information to you that is unprofessional and upsetting. - My supervisor once tried to find out what I gave as a police statement because she wanted me to have exaggerated just as she did, because she wanted the arrested party to be put in jail - I have had to give CPR multiple times to homeless people who are overdosing but there was zero emotional support from the company regarding how traumatising that situation was, despite me having written a detailed report - Too many ambassadors cry in the back areas because they are all stressed, overworked, and at their wits end. Zero support from management though management constantly sends messaging that they "hear our concerns, take them seriously, and are working on it". Managers also would cry in the back areas because they are also overworked to some degree, but they continue to perpetuate this culture so ultimately they are culpable

Pros

GREAT banquet management - Shawn is a good guy and will train you well. Very basic responsibilities and great pay for what is required of you. Free banquet quality meals for employees after shifts.

Cons

Union position means MINIMAL work hours (around 8/wk) until you've been there 2+ years. By all means keep this as a weekend job and establish seniority, but DO NOT quit your weekday job. You'll be doing a lot of setting up/moving tables and chairs, but it's by no means stressful.
