Pros
Excellent coworkers. I enjoyed getting to know regulars and making drinks.
Cons
I worked as a barista at the Shadyside branch of Coffee Tree Roasters. It is honestly impressive that the working environment can be so toxic despite unionization. In the span of less than 4 months, I would guess about 15 people quit. The turnover is terrible, but corporate refuses to acknowledge their utter failure at management and blames it on people being unprofessional and "not wanting to work." If every single person is quitting, maybe you need to take a long look in the mirror and realize you're the problem.
Short staffing was frequently an issue due to the high turnover and shifts were unnecessarily stressful. I was forced to close the store by myself after I had worked there for about a month. The business was open for 2 hours with just me there, rather than closing early. At our busiest times, sometimes there were only 2 people working, leaving 1 person by themself when the other had to take a (mandated and fully reasonable) break.
I was also expected to train new hires with little experience of my own (and without being told beforehand.)
