Pros

Remote work opportunities. Long lunch periods.

Cons

Call center. calls are timed and monitored b y team leaders (managers). Calls are inbound (meaning you don’t have to cold call anyone). This also means you have no control of the number of calls that you do or do not receive. Positive performance appraisals are contingent on your call numbers/times/ which is largely outside of your control. Discouraged from having calls last beyond 5 minutes (this can be a challenge when offering referrals, or dually assessing for risk. ) Lack of support from peers or management. Siloed role. Management discourages communication from peers. Clinical supervision for licensure occurs during lunch hour, If you chose to participate you would forego your lunch. Experiences in this role did not provide any transferable clinical skills to assist me in future roles. This was not an experience/role appropriate for clinical, master level social workers. Poor benefits considering this position is not eligible for PSLF, and there were no loan repayment benefits at the time of my employment. No opportunities for advancement unless you have a LCSW however, pursuing an LCSW is far too advanced for the guidance consultant Experienced difficulty managing client expectations for support when faced with managerial expectations for low call times. This is also counter to the product being sold .

Pros

I have spent many years in many different organizations. I can honestly say that I feel more at home at Compsych than anywhere else in my career. The work brings me into contact with peers who are extremely helpful and kind. Upper levels of management are approachable and interested in suggestions and the success of the employees. I am very happy to be spending my years before retirement in such an environment.

Cons

Contact with the public, of course, has drawbacks. There can be people who are very, very difficult to deal with. I am trying to learn how to let it go and move on.
