Amazing mission, unsteady leadership - Finance CommonBond Communities Employee Review

Pros

The only current pro is that CommonBond had a great mission.

Cons

Huge egos lead to an amazing amount of interdepartmental conflict that lead to where CommonBond is today. Fingers were constantly pointed instead of actually addressing the issues. Progress would happen, but every step of progress led to so much burn out that people would leave and issues would regress. Almost all positions are being outsourced, so there's not much left that can be course corrected.

Pros

CommonBond’s mission is admirable. Advantage Services genuinely works to support and sustain housing for people from all walks of life, especially those who might otherwise lack access to safe, stable housing.

Cons

The company’s failures are rooted at the senior and executive level, starting with the CEO. She has consistently selected inadequate executive leadership based on friendship and personal ties rather than competence, accountability, or experience. This has created a trickle-down culture of dysfunction that has driven out many of the organization’s most talented, ethical, and professional employees. Those who remain are largely individuals willing to tolerate or participate in a toxic and hostile work environment. It is baffling that donors and sponsors continue to support leadership without demanding accountability. When leadership fails, the organization fails. Moving to 3rd party management is strategy — it is a cop-out used to mask years of poor leadership decisions. These problems are not operational; they are leadership failures.
