Pros

There are some truly amazing individuals working here — smart, empathetic, collaborative people who bring real passion to their roles. Some of the best in the buisness are at CommunicateHealth. And it’s very likely to find great friendships and supportive peers who make the challenges more bearable. Also, the unlimited PTO is great— assuming you can laugh at the unreasonable expectation to develop a comprehensive coverage plan for even one day out of office (no, developing a coverage plan for 8 hours isnt the end of the world. But the expectations/tone around taking time off here is laughable.)

Cons

Unfortunately, leadership often seems to stifle — rather than nurture — bright, motivated talent. There's a pattern of minimizing concerns, especially from HR and senior leaders, which creates a culture of distrust. Camaraderie exists, but so does exclusion, cliques (some staff have been here since the founding of the company and there are visible perks for those who have close relationships with the founding members), and bullying masked as feedback or "fit." While the company may pride itself on its values, I didn't feel that people of color and staff with less seniority were truly supported— when we talked about pay discrepancies with one another, we were shocked. I'm sure HR can pull stats or say something about the “career matrix” to tell a different story, but lived experience speaks volumes. While it’s a challenging time in public health, the lack of financial transparency made things worse. Leadership often reassured staff that things were stable, only for surprise layoffs to follow shortly after. It created unnecessary anxiety and made it hard to trust internal communication. Even in tough times, teams deserve honesty and clear signals about what to expect.

Thank you for your feedback on your time with us at CommunicateHealth. There's a reason some of the "best in the business" are at CommunicateHealth, as you note. The combination of passionate employees, committed clients, and a strong company culture make CH a special place to work. And at the same time, we understand that individual experiences vary, especially in a fast-paced consulting environment. We do our best to keep staff privy to the state of things at CommunicateHealth. Whether information is shared through quarterly all-staff meetings and CEO updates, or our weekly Employee Experience communications, we do our best. Unfortunately, there's a great deal of uncertainty in the current public health environment. things can change rapidly in ways that demand rapid responses, but we truly do make an effort to keep our staff in the loop. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us. Feel free to follow-up to discuss further at admin@communicatehealth.com The CommunicateHealth Employee Experience team

Pros

Benefits are fine, and they’ve retained a talented staff despite the terrible environment because they tend to high mission-focused people.

Cons

Too many to list. Senior leadership is an absolute mess. One owner became recently more present in the daily work, and her lack of social awareness and general poor communication skills leaves a messy wake that staff have to try to clean up (when she’s not throwing them under the bus for one reason or another to try to deflect from her own serious lack of competence). The culture is toxic, and doesn’t in any way reflect the org’s externally marketing of it. The only hope here is that the company that acquired CH is shades better than its current leadership. It wouldn’t take much.
