Cons

If you are considering working for this company you need to know what you are stepping into. First, five-star reviews are written by the CEO herself. CEO is a high conflict person. She leads as the “puppet master” and uses tactics such as splitting, to pit individuals against each other and divide teams. She uses flattery and ego stroking to recruit individuals to her “side”- but it is only a matter of time before a new person is in the crosshairs of her punitive pathological games. Company claims to value employee feedback. Surveys, that the agency claims are anonymous, are distributed several times per year. These are NOT anonymous. CEO has outright said that as the CEO she has a right to know what employees are saying and who they are. CEO thrives on chaos and unrelenting restructuring whether that is the constant musical chairs of office moves or development of new job descriptions. New job descriptions have even come to her in “her dreams.” The CPO likes to remind staff that she “used to manage African War Lords” guess this is her way of saying she can deal with staff of color? Nice commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion CAM! Turnover is incredibly high at all levels. Talented and committed executives high tail it out as soon as the reality of this place has been revealed. 4 CFOs in three years. Turnover of entire teams; Finance, HR, Development, CFS. One VP made it three weeks before she ran for the door. If you enjoy the likes of Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, or The Last of Us you may want to test your wits and see how long you can last!

Pros

CAM has amazing staff members who are really the heart of the organization. CAM offers competitive pay and supports staff professional development, encourages higher education & being flexible when possible. The work is tough but if you want to make a difference in our community I encourage you to inquire. Great pay, great benefits, & great workplace, at least in the CFS team as my experience has been.

Cons

The work. It can be disheartening when unable to provide resources to some of our community members due to policy restrictions. Also the disappearance of former staff. We receive emails about some staff departures, but not for others. Be transparent.

Pros

The communities CAM serves are genuinely in need, and many of the direct service staff bring real dedication to that work. If you're drawn to early education or social services, you'll find purpose in the work itself.

Cons

CAM has a pattern of making decisions at the leadership level and communicating them to staff only after the fact — or not at all. Written commitments from management are not reliably honored. When outcomes fall short, accountability lands on program staff rather than on the decisions that caused the problem. The financial stewardship is a serious concern. This organization has conducted multiple rounds of layoffs within a single year, each following a recent hiring cycle. Staff who built programs, held institutional knowledge, and committed to the mission were let go — not because of performance, but because of planning failures at the organizational level. Leadership has not been transparent about what drives these cycles. Teachers are expected to deliver high-quality, inclusive, developmentally appropriate programming while being under-resourced, under-supported, and held to compliance standards that shift without notice. CAM markets its early education programs as model practice. The gap between that branding and what teachers are actually equipped and supported to do is significant. Burnout is not incidental here — it's structural. The distance between CAM's stated values around equity and transparency and how it actually operates internally is hard to ignore once you're inside.
