Pros

100% health, vision, dental coverage Gym reimbursement education reimbursement 3 week vacation If you are an engineer you are worshipped by leadership. Compass pours it's infrastructure into poaching Amazonians and industry leaders to continue to build and optimize it's platform. The teams and the members on it are always tight. My co-workers feel like family and I have stayed here as long as I have for them. To be clear, I am speaking to direct co-workers. Management is a different story. Offices are pet friendly and now that the world is opening back up they are also gathering back together.

Cons

Compass leadership makes decisions based on select high-performing regions. This, in turn, makes newly established regions incredibly hard to fulfill clients' wishes. I have been at Compass for 3+ years now, and it has never gotten easier. Incredibly long work hours and unfair pay. What you negotiate at the beginning is what you stay at. No room to negotiate raises or anything to that nature, you will be met with the "we have really good software that calculates your market value," and absolutely no consideration of how your role changes over the course of time. Company "pillars" are used as excuses! Does an agent request a flight from New York to Hawaii that will arrive in 2 hours? "Be solutions-driven." Taking a vacation is an act of congress and everyone feels guilty for it. Leadership across many regions had clients who were up in arms that there was an international pandemic and made staff feel INCREDIBLY pressured to head into the office to essentially show face. Optics are a HUGE thing for Compass.

Pros

People are smart. Very much a “move fast and break things” culture which can be refreshing compared to bureaucracy-heavy corporate life. I don’t agree with their values (if they have any) but what they’re doing is unquestionably working - business outlook is strong.

Cons

Leadership will tell you there’s no ego or self-interest involved in their strategy - that is untrue. It’s an extremely heliocentric culture around the CEO. A lot of the work is based around what people they're guessing he’ll like, but there’s no alignment at the outset and something you worked on for weeks/months will be trashed after one look from him. Their mission is ostensibly about empowering agents but they are solving a problem that pretty much no one was complaining about before they started, and which just so happens to work highly in their favor in terms of market share. It’s just business but very disingenuous- don’t believe the hype that it’s altruistic somehow. Also the CEO loves to share his sob story about his single mother upbringing, but simultaneously enacts some of the most anti-parent policies you could think of.
