Pros

I don't know whether to add pros or cons as I cant compare this to another telemarketing job (assuming industries have specific characteristics to its labour). I can tell you: - You'll be cold-calling a specific demographic of people in order to market and sell subscriptions to the Globe and Mail (mostly old conservative upper middle class white folk) -Shifts especially for new comers are short, often your asked to leave after 3 hours (unless you make sales) with a max shift of 5 hours.. - Training is paid and its for a day or two, but its very poor, expect to be trained on the job by your team supervisor, depending on your supervisor you can get good advice - After about two weeks for about 6 shifts and 0 sales expect to get fired - Commission on top of the min wage is quite unrealistic, the avg employee probably gets like 10% of their total income from here - The owner and supervisors respectfully mind their own business for the most part - Supervisors of one team don't seem particularly interested in helping team members of the other team, certainly not pro-actively anyways - You get a 30 min lunch break with any shift length - Don't seem to clean keyboards and headphones very well in the place - If you work Saturday you get a free donut from the Tim Hortons across the street

Cons

Above are pros and cons, the other review reviewed the job well

Pros

Relatively easy job that you can do as long as you have 4th grade reading skills (which, unbelievably, some people don't) and no speech impediments. Paycheck comes every week so if you're in an emergency need of some cash, this would be a good place to go.

Cons

Selling newspapers is tough. Due to lack of sales, the company constantly shuts down after 3 hours or you end up working less days. One of the owners, Joe is responsible for the script and I don't think that he passed elementary-school english. He'll force you to stick to it. The owner and the managers are perverts. One of the managers makes sure that all the pretty girls are always in his team and calls them 'daughters' but gets angry when a guy talks to them. I'm a gay male and was talking to one of his 'daughters' and he thought that I was trying to hook up with her...O.o. There are a lot of regulars, comprised of former convicts and old women who come in just to socialize and gossip since they have nothing else to do on their free time LOL.
