Pros

I have been working at Conifer Realty on a flexible schedule (some full-time and some part-time weeks) in Conifer’s Resource Center for almost two years. I find the opportunities to learn, train, and expand my job knowledge are never-ending and am always encouraged to grow in my field. I work both independently and on teams, depending on the project at hand. I’m asked for my feedback and input on projects – my input is always valued. I regularly observe management to be engaged with their teams. Conifer also conducts an employee survey twice a year, which is vital for employees to provide suggestions, concerns, and areas needing improvement. The best part is, management then shares the survey results by region or department with the employees and identifies new strategies going forward. One of the latest examples was the request for a better medical plan covering all our employees across four states – HR listened and made it happen for 2019! Conifer’s employee engagement is also enhanced every week with fellow employees being recognized on our internal digital board for going above and beyond in one’s job. This has become a wonderful platform to say “thank you – great job” so everyone in the company is aware of one’s newest success. “Conifer University” offers on-going training for all employees. New programs are added regularly, and employees are able to take the online courses as one’s schedule allows. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of continued training courses being offered. Opportunities to “give back” are available within Conifer. Teams are active in their communities to volunteer and provide support locally where needed. While there is some turnover like in many other companies, Conifer strives to promote from within first for all openings. Career-pathing discussions with one’s manager are encouraged on a regular basis. Openings are visible to all employees on the Conifer website. Conifer also has a generous Employee Referral Program for referring potential new hires, which has been very well-received with many successful hires. That alone says a lot about how my fellow employees feel about Conifer, when we’re recommending family and friends to also work here.

Cons

While pay in the affordable housing industry may be a little less than manufacturing or other commercial-type businesses, Conifer has an annual compensation review program to remain competitive. Also, the Conifer benefits, including the 401K with company match, are excellent and help to offset individual or family costs that one may not gain at another company.

Pros

Conifer Realty truly cares about its employees and residents. I’ve came on board in the midst of the companies transition and witnessed a positive shift in the company’s culture, and it’s inspiring to see leadership committed to continuous improvement. The work environment is collaborative and inclusive, where everyone feels valued and supported. Management is approachable and genuinely invested in employee growth and development. The benefits package is competitive, and work-life balance is respected, which makes a big difference. I’m proud to work for a company that is dedicated to affordable housing and making a real impact in communities, it feels good to be part of something meaningful.

Cons

Like any growing organization, there can be occasional challenges with communication across departments. For example, when new initiatives roll out, updates don’t always reach every team at the same time, which can lead to minor delays or duplicated efforts. Sometimes priorities shift quickly, and it takes a little extra coordination to ensure everyone is aligned. However, leadership is aware of these issues and has been proactive in addressing them by implementing better internal communication tools, hosting regular cross-department meetings, and encouraging feedback from employees. These efforts are making a noticeable difference and show the company’s commitment to continuous improvement.

Pros

Depending on your job, you get to work remotely

Cons

Over the last year, almost all of senior management has changed over…which was disappointing as many of them were well liked and respected amongst the company and community. The new management is very disorganized and there is lots of infighting - and not many people have experience working with them or where they worked prior. The experience level is lacking what is needed to collectively steer an organization like Conifer to health. New CEO speaks in broad comments but doesn’t actually carry out any of the initiatives he commits to…I haven’t seen a single initiative completed that was outlined as a “must do” when he started…it’s been very confusing when the head of the company keeps changing direction and plans. All in all, the executive team is a concern and performance continues to get worse and worse. Beyond the executive team, conifer used to be a place where employees felt they mattered and were valued. Now there are no events, get togethers, team building or personal development opportunities. All signaling an executive team that can’t get aligned and doesn’t truly understand how to run the business.
