Pros

*Covid* - This cannot be stressed enough. All of my feelings and obvious attachment to the executives (Danny, Pat and Mike) is evident in what I am writing below: I am confidently saying as would any employee or customer onboard throughout this crisis that ContangoIT has made itself available to help in any way that it can. I present it like an entity to fairly separate it from any personl relationships I may have. They go as far as to make sure or encourage that we spend a portion of the workday addressing individual mental healh or technical growth through some sort of online classes and so forth. We could not meetup anymore as we used to for happy hours or just to catch up (which is fairly customary), fine. Now we do a weekly Zoom happy hour and play trivia and or Family Feud. I cannot minimize or possibly qualify / capture Pat, Mike and Danny's response to this epidemic putting their personal stuggles aside to deal with our day to day and long term happiness, "walking the walk" in getting us through this financially, mentally and safely. Wonderful atmosphere that encourages (if not demands) personal growth Expands your technical skill set Amazing mentorship (not to keep beating the same drum) but management will take you to task on becoming a better engineer and professional. Continually advise on how to accomplish your (and by extension, ContangoIT's) goals F-A-M-I-L-Y - Open door management philosophy that I have used to escalate both internal and technical issues within F-A-M-I-L-Y - That same philosophy applies to issues an employee is going through outside of the office. I have spoken with Pat and Danny multiple times for help and guidance and not only have I never been turned away.... They have both put their arms around me and made sure I received exactly what I needed, when needed. It has been and continues to be a fun place to work and more so it has been motivating to contribute to Contango's continual growth.. It all starts with Contango's "Core Values" and a solid interview process that identifies and attracts engineers that fit in to what we have going on here, a 2nd family. I have friendships all around that I expect to last well past my time here.

Cons

Stressful. There is no getting around it, you are expected to perform and given the nature of MSP work, your work can be held under a microscope. When it is scrutinized it is to keep the clients happy or to learn from the post mortem for growth. No getting around it, a lot is expected from each of us. The release I get from my performance being acknowledged positively can be countered sometimes by the volume of work we get done here @ Contango. We are busy, constantly imroving but busy.

Pros

Frequent happy hours & work retreats Laid back atmosphere A chance to work with very diverse technology Free lunch every Friday Knowledgeable, generally friendly technicians

Cons

The atmosphere is TOO laid back, bordering (and often times crossing) into the unprofessional. It's not uncommon to have upper management come over and publicly yell or berate you in full view of co-workers, in front of clients or in emails with everyone in the company CC'd on it. There's a difference between speaking with full transparency and speaking with tact and candor and it seems Contango IT doesn't know the difference.

For a one star review I'm super happy with all the positives here!! The pros section is great. The fact that I ("businessman-first" Danny) is running the company, unlike a lot of competitors of ours with "tech-only-first" experience is probably why we were placed as #2422 on the Inc. 5000, fastest growing companies in America list. Also why we have won Corporate Culture Awards and 50 fastest growing companies in NY award! The fact that my Partner and CTO, Pat, can answer "any" question is accurate and amazing!!! How awesome is that?! Yes, sometimes he has to ask people to figure it out on their own, that's the downside of having a lot of answers but still a huge positive so thank you!! As far as some inaccuracies in your review, there are a few. For one you are definitely not a current employee working for us for 10 years (lol). We are about to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and there are only a few people here that have been here close to that long. This review is not from any of those people without a doubt. How do I know this? Because no one would say these things about leaving and stay, the job market is way too good! I would also absolutely encourage anyone with these feelings to leave without any hard feelings or burning bridges whatsoever. It's all good! Life is too short to be unhappy with us nerds. The fact is, we've had ONE person in 10 years "leave for greener pastures," which is extremely subjective and debatable. That was a bummer and we learned from it for sure. Anyone else not with our company was let go. So that means either A) you were that one person two years ago and you don't seem so happy, if that's the case we thought you were awesome and love to have you back or B) you were let go and I'm sorry it didn't work out. Lastly, as far as business-first Danny selling projects that are underscoped, you are again clearly mistaken. 1) the consultants scope and create every single project, I literally have never done that and 2) we have a 95 percent success rate in coming UNDER budget on projects, maybe even higher than that! I will say that I apologize if you felt that we were too unprofessional for you. That's a surprising statement and I guess a byproduct of having a fun culture (see pros section). I welcome additional conversations on this from readers or the writer. You know where to find me, still no hard feelings and we can chat it out over a drink or 3. I wish you all the best in everything you do!
