Pros

None. This company tells whatever it is you need to hear to keep you working, and then does not pay you. The owner just sent out an email stating she was shutting down the company, along with an empty promise that she'd pay eventually. I don't expect to ever see my money.

Cons

I spent three weeks working in good faith thinking I would be paid. In that time, I turned down other work. I have no doubt the owner hired me knowing she was never going to pay me for my work. There is no other way to describe this than WAGE THEFT.

Pros

I've been happy with this company. The negative reviews nearly scared me away from applying, but I'm thankful I did. This job is not for everyone, they have high writing standards and those with a strong work ethic. It is a lot of work, especially compared with working in an office. There is no time for slacking. You sit down, write, and don't take many breaks. The company does have suggested words per hour, but if your editing scores are high, word count doesn't seem to be a set standard. I've been pleased with the CEO and never found her to be unprofessional or rude. She's always considerate of taking time off and schedule adjustments. I've also always been paid on time.

Cons

I find about 1/4 of my projects to be dull, but that's just part of the business.

Pros

No pros worth telling about.

Cons

Please take the allegations against CEM and its owner seriously. I didn't and loved my job at CEM for years...until she stopped paying its employees. Six months ago, the owner used every excuse in the book to get away with not paying her hard-working employees a cent. She now owes multiple people thousands of dollars. Almost everyone who previously worked at CEM now has to file wage claims against the owner to try to get what she owes them. She has committed a number of shady business practices, but not paying her employees has been the worst. You'll notice you won't see any more job ads for CEM on Flexjobs or other reputable job sites. It's because she can't pay her employees, so notable sites will no longer allow her to post job ads. I can only hope this review helps others avoid the black hole that is this company and its founder. Plenty of other content writing jobs exist with stable leaders, simple ethics, and better pay. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from CEM.
