Pros

There were a lot of smart, fun, funny people on the ground who were trying to do the best they could with the resources they had, underneath a layer of top-level leadership with limited interest or experience in technology.

Cons

Lots of penny pinching in the short-term, which had a significant negative impact on the long-term happiness, efficiency and productivity of the company. A lot of old-timers got away with doing the bare minimum, hoarding insider knowledge to guarantee their positions without adding any actual value. Management consistently demonstrated a lack of interest or experience when it came to the actual websites the company was building, choosing instead to indulge in an endless series of bureaucratic inefficiencies designed to supposedly improve things.
