Pros

Management seems to have the right philosophy. Employee engagement is on the rise.

Cons

The Pay and benefits really need work. The pay is really low and not balanced out with our competitors in the industry. The medical coverage is sub standard at best. Really high deductibles and premiums out of ones paycheck. Pay is low enough as it is so those high premiums really take a hit off ones Net Income per check. The high deductibles also makes it expensive to go to the doctor since most , if not all, your treatments are paid out of pocket due to the high deductibles. What happens is that people come to work for Core Civic, get trained up and experienced, then go to DOC to make twice what they make at Core Civic for the same job. Also there are positions that do not require a college degree that pay more than ones that require the college degree. It seems that educations takes a back seat and is not really a factor that provides any benefit to the employee/applicant. Leadership shadow is also a problem, there are people in middle management positions that do not get it while the Executive Management does.

Pros

CC Uses cutting-edge Technologies, which is good experience for resume building; many of the Teams are collaborative; interesting work and you can believe in company goals.

Cons

Director and Manager level mgmt at corporate here do not provide guidance on projects. There is a lot of turnover on data projects because new employees are thrown into the deep end and then just blamed if results are not as expected. CC really needs more hands-on project oversight. There are also behavioral and anger issues with a couple long-time ppl as well, and this is both exhausting and (sometimes) outright humiliating. They need to treat new people better.
