Pros

The company's resources for learning and training are top notch. To really gain access to all of the training resources and opportunities you'll need support from your superior. Employees/colleagues are knowledgeable and skilled in their prospective areas. Daily opportunities to rub elbows with uniquely intelligent and skilled people.

Cons

Decision making from the top conservative and indecisive. Corporate decision makers disconnected from the businesses they manage. Poor work life balance due to workload and performance expectations. Company uses a "matrix" organizational structure. Significant amount of time spent in meetings, preparing information and "reporting up" (to senior leaders). There's a strong emphasis on individual contribution and achievement. Individuals aspiring to advance their career forward must be willing to be uprooted on relatively short notice. The company likes to move their most promising talent around to gain them exposure. Because of the size of the company there are few advancement paths that involve staying in one place for more than 3-5 years. Compensation is above average. Approximately 90% of workforce is embedded, often held in one position for years without advancement. These employees receive career training and become SME's integral to their specific organizations. Found it very frustrating when the company would hire external candidates to fill what would have been a promotion for any number of qualified internal candidates. Meeting and impressing the right people will afford greater opportunities for advancement. There is definitely a "good ole boy" club mentality surrounding the corporate office. In the manufacturing plants the company and union relationship is incredibly strained. Company over exploits temporary/contract employees to expand and contract workforce.
