Great benefits, great people, room for improvement - Release and Deployment Manager Correla Employee Review

Pros

* One of the best places I've worked for employee benefits, including unlimited leave, private medical, remote working, and no pressure to come in unless operationally required (should be expected). * The people - the reason I stayed so long was the people. Don't get me wrong - not all, but the ones near to me were empowering, mentors, and real. * I was fortunate to have the opportunity to grow in my role. When I struggled with it initially, I was encouraged to stick with it and push out of my comfort zone. * A fantastic manager - the main reason I stayed so long - your manager can either give you a reason to stay or leave, and mine was a blessing in disguise. * Collaboration - although it had its challenges, the people were great, and it helped me develop professionally. * Flexibility - Most corporate places don't trust employees, but they did here, trusting you to do what needed to be done while still delivering. * Training and development - you are allowed to own your development and have internal support. Although it wasn't always practical due to operational demands being unpredictable at times, I still had the opportunity to review this in 1:1 meetings and make slow progress.

Cons

* Politics - it's not exclusive here, every company in the world is political, but there was a degree of it within the business. This influenced decisions and shaped people's feelings. * Inconsistent strategy/messages - there were 'transformations', changes in focus and direction, more often than I was comfortable with, but thankfully, I wasn't impacted by this. But it was sometimes confusing to know what we (as a company) were striving for, and sometimes conflicting priorities. * The industry - the gas industry as a whole is complex. The industry is old-fashioned and politics-driven, and I sometimes felt there was a strange relationship with them. The saying 'the customer is always right' is outdated in this era. Customers, like people, have biases, and these biases can also be personal in nature. It sometimes felt decisions needed to be pulled back into the interest of the business and its people, rather than management feeling 'upset' by remarks and comments from customers. * Pay and rewards - I am grateful for my salary and benefits, but the pay review, bonus review, and overall financial rewards were inconsistent. The strategy of the pay review was unclear and needed to be reviewed and updated. * Losing good people - we had many colleagues, including those on contracts, who left, as well as permanent employees like me, who also departed towards the end and were not replaced. It's a shame that we lost quite a few in a short space of time, but the management needs to listen carefully to what people are saying and set aside their personal views.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for your contribution to Correla during your time with us. We're delighted to hear that you found Correla to be a great place to work. Creating a culture where people feel valued and supported is something we work hard to maintain, so it's encouraging to see this reflected in your experience. We also appreciate your feedback regarding parking. As with many organisations based in busy town-centre locations, onsite parking is limited and can sometimes be challenging. We support flexible office attendance and encourage colleagues to consider alternatives such as public transport, cycling and car sharing where possible. We continue to look at practical ways to support colleagues when they visit the office. We wish you all the best for the future and thank you again for sharing your feedback.

Pros

There are still a handful of people there who would enhance, rather than destroy, a company's culture. Send them a lifeboat. The CEO is fiercely intelligent, it's a shame that nobody who reports directly is strong enough to ever challenge and help make sure that the company maintains a direction of travel for more than 6 months.

Cons

A bloated, self-serving layer of senior management has destroyed any hope for development and stripped all autonomy away from those 'beneath' them (and despite the lip-service paid to their culture, you are 'beneath' them). Fantastic benefits are just a plaster over the wound that is the stressful, walking-on-eggshells, nobody-is-safe and those-above-me-will-screw-me atmosphere that has taken over what was an incredible place to work SO THOROUGHLY that it almost feels deliberate. There are plenty of competent and friendly people there, and it's soul-destroying to see their best years taken and their promise sabotaged by those in power who feel threatened. The constant strategic 180-ing and organisational re-shuffling only heightens the fear and uncertainty that has permeated the place.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for recognising the talent and dedication of many of our colleagues. We’re sorry to hear that your time with us ended on a negative note. While Correla's overall business strategy has not changed and remains in place, we do recognise that the ways in which we deliver on that strategy may need to pivot in response to both internal priorities and external market factors. These delivery adjustments are made to ensure we remain resilient, competitive, and able to meet our customers’ evolving needs. We understand that organisational change can be challenging, and we strive to manage it in a way that supports our people and preserves the positive aspects of our culture. Your comments will be shared with our leadership team as part of our ongoing efforts to listen, reflect, and improve. We wish you all the best in your future career.
