Pros

Flexible with using FTO time and adjusting work schedule. The company will work with you if you’d like to switch the group you work with.

Cons

Hours can be long, depending on client work. Cannot control when client information is received, so may need to work long hours at inconvenient times.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are very glad to hear that you appreciate the opportunity to flex your time, adjust your schedule, and switch teams to find what fits best for you. These are cornerstones of our company culture and employee value proposition. Regarding your note about the hours, we certainly realize that, at times, hours can be somewhat long. In public accounting, there are defined busy seasons when most folks are putting in extra time to complete tasks. We try to ensure that this is balanced with substantial opportunities to work fewer hours. Additionally, as you noted above, we encourage everyone to flex their schedules, when possible. This can help to manage work and various personal life commitments effectively. Again, we appreciate the feedback and, as always, hope you will feel free to contact us (HR, a Partner, or me) if we can do anything to help improve your experience or the workplace, in general. Best, Mark Werblin Director of Culture, Engagement, & Talent

Pros

- Cotton has competitive pay and offers flexible work schedules whenever engagements allow. - One of the best things at Cotton is that you are in charge of your success. Promotions are performance-based rather than seniority-based. - Cotton does its best to ensure their employees are happy and growing professionally. - Cotton does its best to adhere to its core values and principles, including work-life balance. - Cotton’s commitment to quality and professionalism is evidenced by the fact that it voluntarily undergoes a peer review every year, rather than the minimal every three years. - Cotton continuously strives to give back to not only the community via The Giving Committee which supports volunteer services and charitable giving, but also, Cotton’s Sustainability Initiative which focuses on sustainability and environmentally-friendly activities.

Cons

While the first half of this is a con, Cottons handling of these situations can also be seen as a pro. Your experience at Cotton will be directly linked with both the client and team you are assigned to. While I’ve had many positive experiences with both as discussed above, I’ve also had assignments and teams that made me dread coming into work every single day. Most partners and managers at Cotton are highly competent and lead by example, but unfortunately that is not the case for all. If you find yourself working under a partner or manager that does not understand the company's core value of 'Balance,' it’s important to communicate that to your advisor or anyone you feel comfortable speaking to in a position of influence. If possible, changes will be made in order to retain you.
