Pros

The company has a profit sharing program; health benefits for you and a domestic partner(if you are gay) good employee discount; employee bonus program and if you are liked and apart of the "team spirit" of the company leaders, you can rise in the ranks of the company fairly fast. You can transition from one location to another within the company or sister company of Crate and Barrel and they will try and accommodate with the same position.

Cons

The most disappointing aspect I found after working for Crate & Barrel for over 5 years is the lack of consistency within the company leadership. The downfall of the company is that each store has a different set of "rules" based on the store manager. The overt favortism is on a grandious scale. If you dont fit in the "mold" of what they see as a Crate & Barrel employee the benefits dont exist. There are no days off to take care of any personal family issues (ie death in family); no training to assist you trying to be promoted within the company; no raise with your yearly evaluation; no bonus eventhough you were apart of the sales team that quarter; It became aparent to me and others that we didnt fit the mold of what they expected of a Crate and Barrel employee though I never took a sick day nor took personal time others did and were eventally fired for various reasons they created. Unfortunately not all the stores are the same it depends on the store manager. So unfortunately for people your Crate and Barrel career depends on One Persons opinion not the overall company and not on how your work performance was. My reviews were good and my team on the floor liked me but not the manager and was basically forced out due to lack of ablility to move forward in the company.

Pros

The only saving grace is the people I've worked with . Other than that I'd leave a negative star if I could.

Cons

The CEO Janet Hayes has taken away additional employee discounts . At a certain time of the year we used to get an additional 15% off on top of our regular discounts. GONE! If an in store customer would like to have an item that ships directly from the vendor we offer free shipping . If an employee would like to do the same not only do we have to pay for shipping but our discounts can no longer be applied . How low can you go? What a great way to motivate the employees and show us all that we are just numbers and you could care less about us . This company doesn't care about it's workers and I wouldn't tell someone I don't like to work there. Every location is experiencing high turnover as management is typically incompetent and focuses on all the wrong things. Training is laughable and most designers are thrown to the wolves with high expectations after a few videos . You can not make as much as advertised so don't waste your time. Most don't stick around more than 3-6 months . You have to have open availability and they don't care if you go to church or need family time . There will be no work life balance . Constant updates are always required . What are you selling ? What are your future sales ? How many cards have you opened or how many emails can you capture? How many in home visits have you made ? Speaking of which did you know they send women to in home visits by themselves without vetting clients in the store first ? Another huge potential lawsuit on the horizon.
