Rapidly Increasing Toxicity - Sales Manager Crestron Electronics Employee Review

Pros

The company still has a fair amount of ‘good reputation’ runway to exhaust.

Cons

Keep your nose down. Stay in your lane. See something egregious that will harm the company that’s in the adjacent lane? Shut up. Check your boxes. Drone on. What was once a terrific familial environment where everyone had everyone’s back to “do what’s best for Crestron” has become a toxic siloed culture of CYA. Garbage employees who game the metrics are enshrined. At 25+ years, the CEO is clearly well beyond his peak and is now insulated by ‘yes’ men. Completely out of touch. Nepotism is rampant. CFO is FAR too involved in operational decisions. COO is entirely absent. CTO is tragically an almost nonexistent presence anymore (at a technology company). Every day feels like a new corporate ‘vision’ was born in the CEO’s bowl of Alphabits cereal; completely scrapping yesterday’s vision. All reactive all the time with zero patience for efforts to take root. Feels like the ship is rudderless at full throttle and we’re trying to convince the market that our erratic movements are those of a nimble and responsive authority. It’s utterly exhausting. But hey, there’s a gym on campus!

Pros

Relaxed. Management understands traditional AV industry is saturated and is trying hard to pivot the company into new direction. Whether it will work or not is to be seen.

Cons

This place really needs to re-evaluate how they hire and retain engineers. Across all disciplines, there are many senior level engineers who have no idea what they are doing. Some lack such basic engineering skills and knowledge which makes one wonder if they had proper higher level education or lied about their past career experiences on their resume. Most of them are genuinely nice people, but they are really dragging down productivity.
