Pros

- Very serious about "no crunch": I've never had to work overtime whilst I have worked there - The project is fun: The current iteration of Need For Speed has some really unique visuals and cool stuff for artists to do - EA in general seems to do right by their employees at a foundational level: Bonuses are OK, access to free games from across the org, and plenty of great extras included in employment - Super flexible working conditions: the office has "recommended" days to be in, but this isn't enforced and it feels like people who are in office are there because they want to be rather than being forced. Some staff are even allowed to work remotely 100%. - The studio admin team are great and really try hard to make you feel appreciated.

Cons

- Recently there's been a mass exodus of high up staff, leaving the studio's future feeling uncertain. - Production is a mess: An almost overwhelming and suffocating amount of bureaucratic scrutiny on what work is going into the game, leaving very little room for real improvement or meaningful iteration in the project, whilst also expecting the moon on a stick. Meanwhile Production simultaneously seem to have very little idea over what is actually happening with features and things going into the game. What's worse is that Production often book in Retrospectives, gather feedback, and then don't appear to react to or address what people are complaining about. - A huge culture clash between a handful of studios who have been merged together: Criterion, Ghost Games, Codemasters Runcorn & Slightly Mad Studios (along with new hires who weren't previously working for EA) are all at odds with how best to do things, and no one seems to want to budge and collaborate on a better way of working because they are convinced their way is the best way. - Game leadership team can often be condescending and dismissive: throw their weight around with very little evidence for why the things they demand are actually what the game's players want. A lot of people with very little knowledge of crafts dictating poor ideas to experts, rather than experts being trusted to deliver the work. - The entire studio needs a serious amount of training on conflict resolution, constructive feedback and good communication. A lot of people are condescending, confrontational, accusatory and dismissive - and any criticism of this is waved away as "collaboration" or "the Criterion way".

Pros

- Some really good colleague and friend - Splendind office location - Many colleagues passionate about work, art, and always pushing boundaries to achieve the greatest results - I love having a private bar where we can hold our meetings and enjoy a meal together - AI is still seen as an opportunity to speed up the workflow, not a way to replace human beings.

Cons

- Organizational dynamics have become increasingly politicised and toxic, with inter-departmental power structures impacting cross-functional collaboration. - The current workload and expectations present challenges in maintaining a sustainable work-life balance. - The Return to Office policy has not improved employee wellbeing or work-life balance, nor it improved productivity, based on consistent peer feedback. - Recent redundancies appeared misaligned with performance data, resulting in the loss of high-value colleagues, while cost inefficiencies in project delivery remained unaddressed. - The ratio of Managers and Art Directors to those effectively fulfilling their roles leaves room for improvement.
