Pros

Working at CR you get to meet some really great people with the same interests. There’s lots of in-office perks, such as catered lunches and snacks. Nothing that’s too out of the ordinary though. Depending on your role, you get to work with or on series’s that you’re passionate about. Fridays are holidays during the summer (unless you work in production, and then… maybe, but the anime must still air on time!!)

Cons

There is a severe lack of communication between different departments. Layoffs happen suddenly and with little to no transparency. Since the Funimation-Crunchyroll merger, it seems like legacy employees on both sides have continued to act as if they work for separate companies. Legacy Funimation workers consistently feel like they’ve been disregarded and haven’t been brought in under the CR umbrella despite being part of the company that purchased CR. Lots of outdated standards are being used and problems that customers complain about (such as the lack of closed captions for many shows- something that is not legal) seem to be pushed back until they cannot be ignored any longer. There is a huge disconnect between the business side and the production side of the company. Many decisions made on the business side seem to not consider the actual impact they have on production. Those on the production side are forced to work against tight and inflexible deadlines. Holidays and other days off that are given company wide are not actually applicable to those who work in production. If a show airs on a holiday, that schedule will not change, and you can be sure that you (or someone else if you manage to get out of it) will still have to be working on it. So emails that say “please take the day off” are pretty much a joke. Depending on the department you’re in, intense overtime is not unheard of and may be the norm. After all, show schedules change each season and air shortly after they do in Japan. So you may work a normal M-F schedule but then have some middle of the night work to do or weekends or early early morning. Some of this has improved, and it may continue to do so, but it is worth noting.

Pros

Great culture when you have a great boss.

Cons

Not great for contractors as they have too many limitations not allowing them to contribute as widely.
