Pros

The company has a great mission, providing the best affordable healthcare to everyone, and the product addresses a very real need. Partly because it's such a small team, there is a tight feedback loop between working on the product and the satisfaction and health outcomes of customers. It's always very gratifying to see the results of user interviews that show our product really helped somebody at a tough moment in their lives, even while at the same time seeing up-close the unfair vagaries of the US's healthcare system. There's also a great culture. Everyone I've met at Curai is genuine, friendly, welcoming, and approachable, from other engineers to doctors to upper management. The company at every level is staffed by people from a diversity of cultural, economic, and even professional backgrounds, which makes it feel very inclusive.

Cons

Those looking for a big company experience may not like the scrappy startup vibe at the company. The team is still very small so there is a lot to do, a lot of impact to make, and folks need to be flexible and open in order to make that work. The widely-distributed workforce can also mean trying to find meeting times that work for people in multiple timezones, though the company is deliberately trying to get better at asynchronous collaboration. The remote-first nature of the company means being very diligent about scheduling and attending online meetings.

Pros

The work and mission is fulfilling. The culture is endearing as long as you don't dig too deep.

Cons

Many of those in leadership positions are immature, shameless or just have to be right about everything. They overrule and have chased away good talent. It's a nearly 10 year old startup. Those present from beginning are the authority of everything to the companies detriment.
