Pros
Opportunity for advancement, no need for college degree if you know people who work there
Cons
Awful technique/probably not OSHA compliant (vent hoods that are never more than 1/4 closed, people using gloves on computers/sometimes not at all, no one uses eye protection and most don't wear lab coats).
Storage of hazardous waste on shack that floods when it rains (despite being an 'environmental' lab)
Homophobic employees
Basically no benefits and salary ~10,000 below median as per bls.gov
