Pros

Team that you work with

Cons

While I deeply respect and appreciate the few directors and managers who are genuinely good and helpful, it's quite impressive how many harmful directors and managers manage to outshine without any effort, solely because of their close connections with upper management. Favoritism and nepotism can exist in any company, and I understand that. However, in this company, it is excessive. The leadership and managerial skills of multiple directors are abysmal. For example, the site director doesn’t know how to lead the team and instead shifts her responsibilities onto other staff, expecting them to handle it because "they should know this." It's a classic case of one bad apple spoiling the bunch. If someone has an opinion that differs from upper management, there is no room for discussion. There's no consideration of feasibility—it's simply assumed that if you disagree, it's because your skills are lacking. They only want people who are submissive. They used to train good middle managers, but constant changes have left everyone unsure of what is happening now. Some directors are constantly in "meetings", which sounds productive, but in reality, it often results in little action. They spend hours discussing in meetings and then expect their subordinates to achieve somehow outcomes that consistently fall short of expectations. They offer token gestures like "Let me know how I can help," but these rarely translate into tangible support or actions. When performance or results inevitably fail to meet their lofty expectations, it's never due to their unrealistic demands or lack of adequate time—it's always attributed to the supposed lack of skill among the team.

Pros

Close connection with most colleagues. Pays relatively well for market standards.

Cons

DM will hire and fire based on workload. They’ll hire when busy, layoff when the studies dry up. Site leadership during my employment was weak, did not get many studies awarded, let me go less than a year later. Department had unreasonably strict expectations.
