Pros

Globally well known brand A resume booster

Cons

Most of the below is relevant to Dalberg Asia. First off, the Dalberg Asia, Mumbai/Delhi in particular, is way above the rest of Dalberg in how BAD it is. By bad, I mean, exceptionally bad. The culture is extremely toxic, with certain people in the office having more "social capital" and visibility than others. All the cohorts are extremely political and everything, from who gets to be on a project to who gets asked to leave without any reason, is driven by politics. Second, the manger cohort in particular is sub-optimal to the point of being downright mediocre. They do not know an iota of consulting and spend their time grumbling about partners and consultants. This is particularly true for laterally hired managers brought in the last year. They are considerably below expected standards of competence. Third, perception is king in deciding how you will fit in and perform at Dalberg. Managers are thick with each others, and once identified as weak in some aspect, you will never be given a fair, just opportunity to live it down or prove yourself. Fourth, PLEASE do not join Dalberg if you want to work for "Development" or even consulting if you think of it. But there is almost NO engagement with the idea of development, no attempt at being a part of the greater development ecosystem, thought leadership is few and far between (managers are output driven (few of them) and dont care about the true development issues) Finally, beyond some truly talented, intelligent and nice people in the consultant/SC cohort as well as the Ops staff, there are no upsides to working for and under people who do not inspire respect, do not empower employees, do not make you feel safe.
