Cons

- Lack of professional and business growth. - Frozen salaries with no base increases. - Salary inequality between employees in the same role. - Unfair and unequal remuneration system. - Additional work not recognised or valued, becoming part of daily tasks. A company is largely defined by how former employees evaluate their experience, and this is mine, in the hope that it will help others avoid falling into the same trap. During the interview process, Darwinex presents a positive outlook on both business growth and professional development, leading candidates to accept a low salary with the expectation of improvements in the medium or long term. However, once inside, the reality is different: verbal agreements and promises fade away, there’s no real marketing budget, no additional support, and no options to negotiate salary improvements. Pay rises are minimal, and in some cases, long-term employees end up earning less than newly hired colleagues. Salary growth is practically non-existent, as are professional development opportunities. This is a Spanish company with an unequal remuneration system, where there’s a significant wage gap between new and old employees, even within the same roles. The incentive system does not reward those who contribute the most, but rather depends on what the company is willing to assign through internal negotiations, creating inequity. Compared to other companies in the financial sector, salaries are low and commissions are insufficient. Employees in business development, particularly Key Account Managers with language skills, are assigned tasks beyond their contractual responsibilities. These include website and content translation, social media and community management, among other duties that would normally require a specialised team. However, all this work falls on a single person, without receiving compensation or recognition for the additional effort. These extra tasks quickly become part of daily responsibilities, without the time or effort being valued. Management demonstrates a clear lack of understanding of business development, especially in international markets. Annual objectives are imposed unilaterally, without considering the actual market conditions or the team’s capacity to meet them without the necessary resources. This creates unrealistic expectations and adds unnecessary pressure on staff. Furthermore, the salary and commission scheme is inconsistent and varies individually for each business development team member, without fairly reflecting performance or the value each person contributes. Instead, commissions depend on the company’s arbitrary allocations and what each employee manages to renegotiate year after year. In the specific case of key account managers with language skills, they are often tasked with translation work or business development in specific markets, without the necessary support or marketing budget to help grow the company. This leads to frustration, as more responsibilities are given without appropriate compensation or growth opportunities. The lack of integrity from management is a constant issue. During my time at the company, I witnessed how a negative atmosphere was created with constant criticism about tasks that were not part of my role, often without providing the promised resources. Terminations are usually unexpected and without prior notice, with no clear process or conversations to discuss the exit. Employees are manipulated until the very last moment, with attempts to pay as little as possible, often pushing them to pursue legal action. If you're considering joining this company, even in another department, I strongly advise negotiating your initial salary thoroughly and ensuring all conditions are in writing, as verbal promises are not kept. It’s telling that some of the original programmers, who started the company alongside the CEO, have left. This raises the question: what makes others think they’ll have more opportunities? If, despite everything, you still decide to take the plunge, make sure not to fall for empty expectations.
