Cons
Where do I start? I'll with the accountabilities, you're expected to complete 6 events per week, 4 corporate meetings per week, conduct 2 meeting with your admissions teams, and establish 4 corporate CEP's per year. In order to secure 6 events per week you need to allocate at least an entire day of the week to cold calling on organizations to allow you to come in to conduct an event with their employees. An event is basically the MLA pitching the 75k bachelor's degree program, or the 45k master degree program to an organizations employees in the form of a presentation or information table. Management wants you conduct lunch & learns (presentations) at companies where there are at least a 100 or more employees at an organization, essentially your cold calling HR depts. (its 65% of the job)., the challenge is there isn’t a significant ROI to an organizations bottom line to allow you to conduct a 30 min presentation to their employees. Management is so out of touch, they think DeVry is on the forefront of key decision maker’s minds, in fact if a company offers tuition assistance DeVry would cost that company money by sending an employee back to school; that employee may leave to work for another organization. If you have any type of significant sales experience you will never see a bonus, thus you will not be very motivated to do the above task on a weekly basis, needless to say this is a continuous grind week in and week out. They will start you at about 60k base and you will never see a pay increase (maybe a 2.5% annual pay increase). Management and admissions (You basically report to your campus and your manager) are never satisfied, it’s what have you done for me this week. Please keep in mind the task I mentioned above, is only a short list of the job responsibilities!!! In closing, the biggest issue management is having with the MLA's is the amount of inquires (leads) being generated at each event. By law they aren’t allowed to question us about the # of leads being generated at each event, we can’t make a prospective student fill out an inquire card getting their phone number, address and email address. So management started using this code phrase "What was the outcome of the event"? (Basically how many inquires did you get). Also, if you don’t generate at least 3 leads they will send your key contact at the org a survey to fill out to check if you conducted the event, and to find a reason why this event wasn't successful. Also to show upper management they implemented a checks and balance system. Its micro management at its highest level!!
