A chance to change the world - Vice President Declara Employee Review

The people here are really amazing - everyone is super smart and engaged. Our culture is very much a typical start-up - dogs at work, open office, jeans, etc. We do support a culture of learning, and I feel like I am challenged every day (definitely not bored!) We also organize trivia nights and sporting events (like company bike rides and a triathlon). We get catered lunch twice a week which is also very nice.

The days-off policy is not very good. We only get 10 days off per year, and that is tough when we work crazy start-up hours. The office location is also not great. It's in an industrial area of Palo Alto far from a lot of places to eat and go to after work (for drinks, dinner, lunch, etc.). It's also far from Caltrain and not close to any of the major stops, so you basically have to drive in to work every day.

Declara's focus on transforming the way the world shares knowledge and how people learn is really important work. It also has a lot of positive social impact so I feel good/proud to work at Declara. The company is willing to experiment to get the product right and to grow the user based. It's so exciting to see the product getting better and better and see customers really loving what we have built. I appreciate my Declara family! The people who work at Declara are great, super smart and fun to work with and the leadership team are seasoned, humble and truly care. And it's dog friendly!

Like lots of start ups, the product has evolved over time and so true north wasn't always perfectly clear. But that time has allowed us to experiment and the product is looking great and getting lots of positive feedback. The company had gotten a bit too big too fast, but that's been addressed so we are back to being a lean and hungry team which is really good to see.
