Pros
Very good and honest people but no real career opportunities if you aren't part of management or the family ownership already.
Cons
Dentist Direct is a small business venture with little experience and resources in an ultra competitive and saturated dental insurance market. Dentist Direct competes with a dental discount plan called Direct Access and goes head-to-head with larger dental insurers on group insured plans. There is no meaningful differentiation between Dentist Direct and other dental insurers beyond price. Dentist Direct doesn't leverage a dental cooperative like originally intended. The cooperative has very little to do with any ongoing business at Dentist Direct. Claims administration and underwriting was somewhat of a concern due to lack of quality control and underwriting guidelines. I anticipate this has gotten better since they pulled the claims adjudication people in under the same roof as administration and they have become a little more seasoned. There is a perceived conflict of interest from potential insurance brokers that created reservations with some in selling Dentist Direct plans because of the common ownership Dentist Direct has with BIG Benefits, another insurance brokerage. If you knew the people who own and run BIG Benefits and Dentist Direct you wouldn't have a concern; they are good honest people just trying to make a living. Imagine that in the insurance industry?? But I anticipate this association will always negatively impact future growth because there is no shortage of competitors willing to stretch the truth and cast doubt on their competition. The employee benefits were typical for a small company. Simply state they're not very good. In fact, they were the worst employee benefits I have had my entire working life. Ironic, considering what they do.
