Chaotic Environment - Software Engineer Depop Employee Review

Pros

Colleagues are sharp, collaborative, and refreshingly low ego. Work life balance is respected in practice, not just on paper, and flexible hours make it easy to structure your day in a way that works for you.

Cons

Compensation is below market rate and does not appear to be adjusted competitively over time. Engineering decisions are made top-down with little visibility or input from individual contributors, which creates a chaotic environment where priorities shift frequently and there is no clear long term technical direction. Career progression feels opaque where growth seems tied more to internal politics than to performance or impact. Those who have been with the company for seven to ten years tend to be the ones who get promoted, regardless of merit.
