Pros

A lot of smart, committed and friendly people at team level Some opportunities for learning and development if you find them autonomously Exciting product that's doing good and used by millions of people Lasting a year will look great on your CV Pretty competitive pay and benefits

Cons

Culture has really suffered during the pandemic. Slow to adapt healthily to remote working and hyper hiring growth. Not a lot of time or energy for social stuff around endless zoom calls. Lack of structured processes around career progression and promotion leads to feelings of inequity. - seems more based on 'who you know' or prior level rather than individually earned skill or contribution. Men frequently hired into senior positions rather than promoting women. You feel at the bottom rung and unable to enact any change as a non-senior team member. No healthy feedback culture either amongst peers or to leadership meaning poor performance can go unchecked. Become very hierarchical with ineffective middle management who are afraid or unwilling to stand up to unreasonable or unclear leadership direction. Heavy culture of doing what you're told rather than challenging questionable decisions. Targets slow to be reforecast based on hiring shortfall and external factors plus very little collaboration or synergy between business and product, leading to pressure and ineffectiveness. Not a lot of clear, focussed shared vision or strategy to work to. An uncomfortable growing scrutiny on committed delivery plans over value generation in product teams. Not really a healthy agile product development practice. I reluctantly felt forced to leave feeling burned out and like my efforts were not recognised and feedback to improve things was unwelcome.
