Pros

The trainers are high quality, well educated, and very professional. There is a huge emphasis on perpetual improvement. You will learn a lot working here, and you will be pretty good at your job. The exercise equipment is cool. Fast-paced environment could be a pro or con. Can be a very fun, rewarding job for the right personality. Long-term trainers that build a following can earn a decent income - you control your wage (or level) to some extent by completing certain objectives/education. Trainers don't need to find their own clients and don't work on commission.

Cons

Stressful work environment, especially considering the compensation. Management is dogmatic with business and training ideology and worships negative feedback to a fault. They want a particular personality for their trainers, and their strategy to get it is "hire fast, fire often", despite claiming they will take/keep anyone that fits their core values. Most clients are returning customers and they tend to prefer the veteran trainers - this is normal in training but creates an awkward dynamic when trainers share clients. Pay is per session completed. Some paychecks are big, but it difficult to budget especially if you aren't single. Not recommended as a job for primary earners.

Thank you for sharing the above feedback. We are very committed to living the company Core Values and admittedly, this culture isn’t for everyone. Our philosophy around hiring has always been, “Hire slow, fire fast,” evidenced by our 4-step interview process. We do this because we think people are the most important element of the business. We are always looking for the “right person” (meaning, the person is a Core Value fit) and also strive to put people in the “right seat” (meaning, they have a job description/roles that they can excel at). Although compensation is primarily based on the number of client sessions trained (which is the industry norm), the compensation plan (1) allows each trainer to create his or her raises and (2) has resulted in our personal trainers becoming among the top earners in the industry (first year trainers makes on average, 45k, second year trainers make 52k, and 70k+ after year four). A benefit of employment at Discover Strength is that trainers don’t have to find their own clients; we fill each trainer’s schedules with clients.
