Pros

DES will pay for seminars and professional certifications. Pay rates were just okay. Nothing spectacular, but not bad.

Cons

CEO/Owner is always at odds with someone on his management team or his staff. Each day is stressful not knowing which version of him you will get. Managers attempt to reign him in, but ultimately they give in to his unethical ways. He berates his staff and puts everyone down… all while talking himself up saying that he is such an amazing, generous employer. He wants constant praise from his staff. The office is always tense. The management team is always in conflict with each other, leaving employees not knowing who to please. You do what one manager wants and then you’re left explaining why/how/what you did to the other managers. They are never on the same page. They hold meeting, after meeting, after meeting and they can’t figure out how to collaborate. There is no autonomy. You are constantly micromanaged. CEO and management are too prideful and absolutely refuse to admit that they may not know something. If you know something Payroll or HR related they don’t, even if it can benefit business practice, they will go out of their way to make sure you aren’t heard. They expect you to follow Payroll and HR guidelines while consulting clients, rightfully so! But they have ZERO internal HR. You have to put up with a lot of awkward conversations and confrontations to remain on CEO's good side. Once you start to try to separate or pull back from this inappropriate, obnoxious behavior they will do whatever it takes to push you out. They will fire you outright, or use bullying and intimidating practices until you just can’t take it anymore.
