Pros

ECODIT strikes a perfect balance between the flexibility of a small business and the structure of a larger organization. The home office team, including HR, finance, and contracts, is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and supportive, providing the resources employees need without unnecessary bureaucracy. Their policies and systems are well-designed to enable staff to focus on their work while maintaining a smooth operational environment. I highly recommend ECODIT to anyone seeking to work in USAID contracting, particularly in the fields of environment, resilience, climate, and energy.

Cons

ECODIT operates primarily as a virtual organization, which I find to be a positive aspect, though some may prefer an in-office work environment for collaboration. From what I understand, the Arlington, VA office is being utilized more frequently by staff. While the different practice areas can sometimes feel siloed, these barriers are largely perceived. In my experience, I have been able to connect across practices and access the resources and support I need with ease.

Pros

ECODIT is a challenging place to work, so that could be either a pro or a con for you. It's not a place for an employee looking to sit in a cube and do something monotonous. The challenge comes is having to assume a lot of responsibility, sometimes in areas that are new. You'll get a lot more exposure to every job function than you would at a large NGO, which is a plus when looking to move on someday. If you have poor writing style, expect to have it micro-managed for a while. It can be annoying, but you'll come out the other side with better style. This is a place to work if you want to make the world a better place, and have a lot of energy to put into it. It can be taxing. Expect long hours occasionally, but not all the time. This is a place for a person who wants to work with an Int’l NGO that has a sterling reputation with the USG, as well as solid internal controls and a good company-wide understanding of USG-funding compliance. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, because no place is perfect, but GlassDoor doesn't allow for half stars.

Cons

They didn't have a dental plan when I was there, but that may have changed.
