All talk, no support: a deeply toxic workplace - Anonymous Employee ELMO Software Employee Review

Pros

Talent employees remain despite leadership. Free coffee.

Cons

Management leads almost entirely through fear. The company appears to be preparing for a sale, and employees are treated like machines whose sole purpose is to generate more revenue. Sales targets are unrealistic and constantly increased, while leadership proudly talks up the company’s financials during town halls, completely disconnected from the impact on staff. The company publicly promotes flexibility, but this is largely performative as leadership makes employees feel guilty or uncommitted for actually working from home. They advertises an “internal career pathway”, but this exists in name only. There is no clear structure and no genuine support for employees trying to change roles or develop their careers. People are not promoted based on this pathway, opportunities are still driven by favouritism and politics rather than capability or performance. If employees are lucky to move into a new role, leadership lacks the skills and willingness to train them. If they are lucky enough to have strong colleagues around them, they might succeed. If not, they are essentially set up to fail. Despite this, they are still expected to perform at the same level as experienced peers almost immediately, making the little support for internal mobility meaningless. Executive leadership openly screams at employees, creating a hostile and unsafe work environment. Aggressive behaviour towards staff is tolerated and often rewarded, reinforcing an extremely toxic culture. HR exists purely to protect the business, not the people. They show no genuine interest in employee wellbeing or fairness, making it unsafe to raise concerns. Communication across the organisation is unclear, inconsistent and often contradictory, leading to constant confusion and unnecessary pressure. There is no internal culture left. Whatever once existed has been destroyed under a toxic C-suite leadership team. The future outlook is poor, with short-term financial extraction prioritised over people, sustainability or long-term success.
