Pros
- PhD students from all faculties get roughly equal salaries - 13th salary split and added in November and December each year - Salary increases a bit each year to adjust inflation - Even non-EU PhDs have a relatively easy process to get a residence permit for the canton
Cons
- Computer science PhD salary lower than in ETH - From the canton you get a student residence permit that will not help at all when finding a job after graduation, but you pay taxes as a regular worker during the PhD (very worth it to do a TOU simulation) - Health insurance premiums same as for general employees, while at ETH they get cheaper student rates
