Pros
I've been working at ETS for more then 5yrs in IT, flexible hours, good benefits, available summer hours, close commute, etc, etc
Cons
Disjointed culture, my team operates as a bunch of solo countries. Everyone is very protective of their knowledge and doesn't like to share what they know. There is no planning for knowledge transfer for new members in the team, people are simply placed in the cubes and are expected to sip knowledge out of thin air. There are no IT related training available (as far as I've seen). Every new project is treated as if the company just opened up and we have never done any assessment development previously. Software testing folks get "rotated" ever few weeks and development team ends up having to train new folks non stop, there is minimal to not knowledge being retained in software test team. Very little to no career growth available (been in the same position for 5 yrs now), unless of course you are a favorite on the team, then you get promoted every few years....almost feel like being in high school. Only a small group of people are allowed to attend meetings and discussions and you end up missing out on what's happening and needs to be done. There is no formal task assignment to individuals on the team, people are expected to just know that you are going to be working on something (since you've done it few years back) There are no formal technical discussions with peers within the group, architects are 250% occupied attending meetings and planning for the next project vs spending time working on the current project and making sure everything is getting done correct and on time and every team member is equally contributing to the projects. The answer to everything seems to be hire more consultants and let them run all of the projects and treat employees like they are a non essential ballast to the team. It is also a paradise for senior employees, some people have been working here for 35 to 40 years and are simply not will to retire yet, so you see a lot of seniors come to just get thru the 40 hr day and get a paycheck, at times it feel like a day spa...Very democratic management and not willing to have conversations with employee, instead a general email gets sent to entire teams with basic guidelines
