Do not work here. It is not worth it, especially for women. - Engineer Eakas Employee Review

Pros

The engineering team I worked with was really great and they made the experience a lot better.

Cons

Upper management has some big issues. There are strong suspicions amongst the staff of wage discrimination against women. Upper management has excuses why, but it’s not hard to see through the thinly veiled pattern that women are making less then men in comparable positions. In addition, I had to deal with the onslaught of sexist comments from upper management, as well as their statements that they were “uncomfortable with a woman in my position” and their suggestions for me to move to a position “more suited for a woman” (i.e. administrative roles, not engineering). Luckily the engineering team backed me and made sure that did not happen. All of the engineers were treated very poorly and taken advantage of. On top of the poor treatment, the pay is very low. They hire engineers straight out of college so they can treat them/pay them unfairly. Don’t believe the VPs sentiment that you have to “pay your dues.” Eakas has to pay its dues by paying their workers a fair wage. They are starting to face the consequences of this treatment with severe short staffing. I can’t imagine they will be able to hire new workers without big changes to their business structure.

Pros

-great learning experience for new engineers -learn about the automotive and plating industry with very knowledgeable vendors. -helps develop critical thinking skills, and you get a lot of responsibilities very quickly. You end up being responsible for things in 6 months that engineers at other companies might require 2-3 years experience -many opportunities to make an impact and improve the process if you put in the effort and time

Cons

-pay is very low per an hour if you are college educated, but the economy is kinda bad right now so eh -communication is lacking, and safety is something you have to prioritize on your own since others won't catch it for you -this isn't a place to stay long term. Everywhere else in the industry could be 2x or 3x your current salary in a similar position. You will need at least 1-2 years of experience -establish boundaries early on as it is easy to be taken advantage of. Also doesn't help that the pay is low and you see many other people are struggling and feel guilty -limits to the technical transferable skills to build if you try to transition industries beyond the basics, so best to put more emphasis on building your soft skills, how you interact and lead others
