Pros

For Union trades on the floor, the work is interesting and varied. You also have some of the best shop managers in the business shielding you from the ownership team. If you are not in the union, unless you enjoy top management screaming (literally) at you and pounding on tables...there is not much to say.

Cons

Unprofessional behavior on the part of ownership that has not been vaguely acceptable since the 50s. A facility that has been allowed to fall apart to a dangerous level. Little or no safety culture in a highly dangerous industrial manufacturing environment. Signed compensation contracts simply ignored without a twinge of conscience, A tragic OTD record that just keeps going. Verbal abuse, by any measure. Poor, reactive financial management leading to extreme hire/fire cycles that devastate good staff and leave those that survive disheartened and anxious.

Pros

fast paced company that challenges you by giving you a lot of different projects to work on (different industries) - but rewarding with lots of avenues for career growth. management is kind and supportive, helpful and encouraging. they support career growth and pay for applicable courses. really have honed my skills over the years. my team is very collaborative. i have pride in my work seeing how it is actually helping better our country and the world. feedback or ideas are heard and opportunities to lead or step up are always given. they support worklife balance with flexibility with accomodating my kids. fun social club events that happen every month (paintball is best!)

Cons

fast paced environment - not going to lie it can be stressful at times as its demanding, but it keeps things exciting. challenges in switching from the different types of projects in different industries (one day may be aerospace large scale and the next will be utilities products). Processes have been improved vastly over the last ~2 years but still room for improvement. constructive criticism is given which sometimes can be hard to hear, but overall helps me to be a better worker.
