Pros
You can work somewhere else.
Cons
Extremely toxic workplace. The micromanagement was off the charts with every single decision (and I mean every single decision) scrutinised. Witnessed a manager bullying staff on a daily basis via derogatory remarks, humiliation and constant belittling. Saw a colleague reduced to tears because of this. Senior management and HR have been aware of the behaviour for decades and have chosen to turn a blind eye to it all regardless of numerous complaints over the years and staff members leaving. I didn’t even receive an acknowledgement that they’d received my complaint. Some of the journalists were extremely rude and entitled. Everyone I met seemed on edge. There was an expectation to start early and finish late for no extra pay and refusal to do so was greeted with sniping comments. Management give no direction and change their minds daily meaning it’s very difficult to do the right thing. Despite all of this, there seemed to be an expectation that you should consider that fact that you were lucky enough to work there as suitable compensation for all of the negatives. In summary: It was a massive waste of time, spent in an horrendous environment, with an awful, unpleasant manager and leaving was the best thing about the whole situation. Avoid at all costs.
