Pros

There is a reason that everyone who works at El Pomar wants to stay and that the Fellowship Program continues to competitively attract some of the top young talent in the country. El Pomar is a foundation that prides itself on helping the state of Colorado and I can say with absolute certainty their impact is incredible to witness from the inside. Furthermore, the Foundation is a place that feels like family, even in a temporary intern position, where everyone knows everyone by first name and you can be sure that those in positions above you truly do have your best interest at heart, without a doubt. The fellows, in particular, are especially helpful and devoted to making sure you get the most out of your internship experience. Anyone interested in learning more about funding, non-profits, meeting need in rural and urban communities, and developing a general understanding of the state of Colorado should consider applying for the internship or fellowship.

Cons

In comparison to many younger organizations, the formal nature of the internship, and the spread out office space feels like a barrier to collaboration at time, and might results in some interns missing out on engagement with staff and meaningful work. Though the foundation prides itself on professional development and a challenging environment, the value and challenge of the work as an intern can be lacking. Additionally, other internships may provide job offers at the end, but you need to wait to apply for the fellowship until December or January of the following academic year.
