Pros

It's a pleasure to teach the kids and make bonds with them over the summer. The inclusion of food and housing is appreciated.

Cons

1. Not nearly enough pay for the amount of hours you're working. Far far below minimum wage when you calculate how much you're making. 2. Extremely long work days both emotionally and physically. You start very early in the morning and go until almost midnight with only a short break in the middle. Some nights you get off, but we were so drained that most staff used them to catch up on much needed sleep. 3. Very poor communication regarding responsibilities and questions on the curriculum. Getting answers from administration was nearly impossible which lead us to just guess what we should be doing. Additionally, some inappropriate comments were made by a male staff member, commenting on the appearance of the non-male employees. 4. Staff are assigned to teach subjects that they don't know, despite being hired for a certain few subjects. We were also only given a few days heads up for certain sessions and thus had to use the few hours we had free to study and learn the unfamiliar curriculum. Some subjects didn't even have a curriculum to follow making it extremely challenging to prepare. 5. At the end of each session, the courses were reviewed by the campers. However, these reviews did not get shared with the tech counselors, so we were left to guess at what is going well. We were also supposed to get mid-summer reviews, and those got delayed until almost the end of the summer when they no longer had an impact. 6. By the end of the summer, the overall spirit and morale of the staff was simply ruined. We were all stressed and exhausted. I cannot stress enough how overworked we were.

Pros

Management quickly removed a problematic director after it became clear that he would discriminate against certain students.

Cons

Over the course of 6 weeks, I worked under 5 different directors. At one point I was the oldest member on the camp staff. I was only 22 at the time. We had no dedicated nursing staff, so the assistant director filled that role. While we managed to run everything smoothly, we were constantly stressed and overworked due to the lack of staffing.
