Pros

My day is never boring, and my work makes a difference. The leadership is getting better and better each month at listening to employees. In-depth training for employees. Promotes from within often. Growing, in the Warren and Franklin counties especially. Overall passionate employees and one of the best human services agencies in the area. Good benefits with a variety of non conventional perks.

Cons

Work can be tiring and challenging. Not everyone-clients or fellow employees- is having a good day each day. That's part of working with people. Also, staffing homes 24/7 is sometimes going to require weekend or odd hours. Agency is working to keep up with all of the changes that come with a shift in service model- but they keep getting more and more fine tuned to how to staff and supervise in this decentralized model.

The day is never boring or the same at Emmaus, but allows room for growth and improvement. Over the past six months, our Executive Team has held listening sessions with our team members. Through this on-going method we are working hard on improving communication, enhancing recognition & appreciation, and specific suggestions to improve policies and practices. We're glad that you've felt how Emmaus is fine tuning how to staff and train during our time in a highly competitive employment market.

Pros

Customer centered. Every home has laptops and vans. Homes are clean, training is accurate. Most clients are wonderful to work for. Clients have the ability to choose how they spend their days. CPR, First Aid, level 1 medication training all included in training. Online corses for wage raise at your own pace.

Cons

Very customer centered, not worker centered. You could have to work nights, evenings and at least every other weekend. Black out for request off on holidays. Schedule is made around client needs, if you don’t fit in the schedule you transfer or work even if it doesn’t work for you.

Pros

The best part of this job is the clients—you really get to make a difference in their lives. You also learn a lot along the way and grow both personally and professionally.

Cons

Management at Emmaus is toxic. Gossip, favoritism, and cliques. Managers will even lie to their superiors about DSPs, and if you don’t plead your case well, you’re out. Basically, if a supervisor doesn’t like you, count your days. Even when Associate Directors know the ACSM & CSM(Managers) are in the wrong, they back them up. DSPs get almost no support, and some days it feels impossible just to do your job. The company really needs to start fresh with new management altogether. The company doesn’t hire based on emotional intelligence anymore, so a lot of managers just don’t care and definitely aren’t client centered or worker centered. Instead of supporting staff, they spend more time looking for reasons to write people up. It feels like everything is a threat, “do this or you’ll get written up.” The sad part is, this job is supposed to be about CARING and management has completely lost sight of that.
