Small company with good benefits - Anonymous employee Empower RF Systems Employee Review

Pros

Empower RF Systems has a very good benefit package, and they pay a significant amount of the cost, which is unusual for a company this size. Most people here are nice and hard-working and will push to succeed. Good engineers who create ground-breaking technology. Close to freeways and free parking. There is some flexibility with working hours. Pay is good but raises are not so frequent because they depend on overall company performance, which can vary.

Cons

The location is not great for walking or grabbing a quick bite somewhere - you have to drive. Some departments are better managed than others, which can be frustrating when something needs to get done. I've seen finger-pointing when deadlines are missed, which doesn't help. There are only two or three annual company lunches, but many smaller meetings where food is sometimes provided. Raises could be more frequent.

Thank you for your review. It's our goal to be the best company of our size and kind, and we know it's our competent staff who help us reach this goal. Competitive pay and good benefits are paramount. We've done well with this but can always do better. An improved overall company performance is expected, which we hope will benefit us all. Thanks again for your comments.

Great leadership team. Solid product portfolio. Well known established customers. Great small company.

Cons

None really…maybe the physical location can be changed.

Pros

Working at EmpowerRF has been the best choice of my 20 years in engineering. Engineering is given a fairly wide berth to quickly address changes in requirements or sales landscapes. Leadership fosters a dynamic fast-paced environment, with significantly more emphasis on delivering than with maintaining an 8-5 schedule. Engineering leadership typically listens to employees opinions, and encourages the employees to arrive at their best collective solution. Working remotely occasionally is tolerated, so long as results are reliably produced. The engineering design work is challenging; problem solving makes the day go by very quickly. Engineering/architectural trade-offs are assessed, debated, and implemented quickly.

Cons

For a variety of unfortunate reasons, engineering is often the last department to touch larger systems before shipment...and often pays the price for schedule slippages of all other departments. The end of every month can be difficult and trying time to be an employee. Colossal pressure is applied by management to get product out the door by close-of-month.
