Pros
The students are the only thing that make the job worth it as sometimes they are undeniably funny and sweet. You get what you give so make sure you respect them and make your lessons fun as that’s the only way to ensure you’ll like it. The other teachers make up for the grind too. I’ve met some people who have changed my life for the better through this company. The subsidised housing isn’t too bad either but understand once you move in, you live there till you leave the company.
Cons
•Low pay compared to other companies •Literally no progression (Senior Teacher position removed) and just divided up to all the other teachers to do the role instead. •You think the 6 day working week will be alright but after a year…it’s not worth it. •No incentives whatsoever, no teacher has ever received the end of contract bonus. No matter if you’ve worked hard or not. •You are given orders from the all-mighty owner who doesn’t know her employees and couldn’t be bothered to meet them. You are a cog in a failing machine. •Once you’ve signed the contract, understand that you have given up not only your time but your mental health too. •Treatment of staff is bad and not only the teachers. The unsung heroes being the admins, assistants and cleaner who are all 100% the main reason I’ve survived this long being able to help me whenever I was lost or didn’t know what to do. •All-in-all, this company has sadly fallen since I joined (not because of me though). It’s not what it once was and there seems to be an element of seclusion where the admins now have separate gatherings from the teachers. •If you’ve gotten this far in the review, understand that if this is your first job abroad teaching English then it’s a good way to get into Hong Kong, but make sure it’s the shortest contract so when you find somewhere better you can join there sooner.
